Our History

1 April 1950

Squadron Formation

Raised in Calcutta as 2 (Bengal) NCC Air Squadron, part of the very first batch of Air Wing NCC units in India, marking the introduction of the Air Wing to NCC.

1950s

Early Operations

Operated under the early NCC numbering system (numerical order nationally, followed by state name in brackets).

1962

Reorganisation

Reorganisation of NCC; squadron redesignated as No. 1 Bengal Air Squadron NCC under West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate.

Post-1962

Flying Training Era

Continued flying training for cadets in association with local flying clubs/IAF support.

2000s–Present

Modern Era

Flying training primarily on Pipistrel Virus SW-80 microlight from Behala Flying Club/Airfield, Kolkata.
